Day 2: “Head for the Light” – by David Johnson (ACC Elder)

Read: 1 John 1:5

Review: When our children were very young, we would pray over them at bedtime, tucking them in with comforting words so they wouldn’t be afraid of the dark. Even though they had been taught monsters aren’t real, there was just something concerning about the darkness. Even now, I’m not excited about looking for noises in total darkness. The thought of the unknown veiled in darkness adds doubt and fear. Thankfully, we serve a God that has no darkness whatsoever, who has no sin. In fact, God is light – the absence of darkness!

Growing up in the Midwest, our family had a bug zapper. I was most intrigued by the moth’s strong desire to get to the light, taking a direct path. Christ-followers would be well served to have such a steadfast focus and drive toward the Light. While the moth’s journey ended in destruction, we can be assured that the relentless pursuit of the Light of the World will result in everlasting joy.

Reflect: Does my walk with God reflect a “steadfast focus and drive” to be in His Light? Or do I spend more time in fear of, yet searching through the Dark? How can I improve my “relentless pursuit” of God?
