Week 3 - Day 3

Day 3: “Counterfeit ‘Christians’” - by Dave Thornhill (ACC Church Member)

Read: 1 John 2:20-23

Review: The waitress's eyes welled up with tears at yet another demeaning tip left on the Sunday lunch ticket. She'd had a rough night, indeed a rough month and year. Working two jobs to make ends meet. The patrons, haughty and sour, showed little patience and much disdain for her efforts. They'd come from the church sharing the diner parking lot, like so many each Sunday…

Much is made of the anti-Christ. The evil beast, challenger to God's sovereignty. But the anti-Christ is a replacement, a pseudo, a whomever or whatever taking the place of Jesus, dismissing both the Son and the Father. Money, ideology, pride: counterfeit saviors.

When you're anointed by the Holy Spirit you are convicted, have discernment, and a feeling creeps up in you that something isn't right. You notice frailty and barrenness in others. What you believe is exposed by what you do.

Merely going to church and calling yourself a Christian is akin to standing in a garage declaring yourself a car.

Reflect: Jesus told Pharisees in John 9 “If you were blind you wouldn’t have sin. But now that you say, ‘We see’, your sin remains.” God, as your child of light, do I “see” things as they truly are? What should I do about it?
