Day 3: “Now/Not Yet” - by Ralph Acerno (Retired Pastor)

Read: 1 John 3:1-3

Review: For John, as well as the apostle Paul, there exists a "now" and "not yet"; a present and future reality of what we are now and what we will then become. Paul states, "now" (present) we see though only a reflection as in a mirror, but "then" (future) we shall see face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12).

John had already witnessed Jesus' resurrection (1 John 1:1-3). Yet, even for him, questions remained on what we will be. The promise however is, "We shall be like him"; that is, we too shall have a resurrected body! Like Jesus, we will transcend time and space, outshining and outlasting this very universe! Like Jesus, we will also be sinless and recognize our loved ones in glory (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Jesus is God's coming attraction of the new humanity yet to be!

Reflect: Am I living only in the “Now”, or do I also live and seek for the “Not Yet”? Do my hopes and goals reflect this?
