Week 2 - Day 4
Day 4: “Fruit of the Tomb” by Brandi Nelson (Worship Team Vocalist)
Read: 1 John 2:9-11
Review: Earthly families form through marriages and children. People also experience family-like connections by sharing common interests. For example, in Las Vegas, the cast of any show may include musicians, singers, and dancers who naturally bond through artistry. God’s family, however, is altogether different. Its origin is neither found in human relationships, art, or common interests.
John describes believers as “brothers and sisters,” citing love between these spiritual siblings as evidence of walking in the light (righteousness). However, the one who hates New Covenant family is not yet “in Christ.” Although they may love humanity in general, hate for God's family signifies inherit darkness (sin).
What makes love between believers different? The source! Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection is the eternal source of love for every believer. Those who declare and receive the gospel are indwelt by the Holy Spirit; and only the Spirit can enable us to love like Christ, bearing His fruit.
Reflect: What kind of “fruit” do my brothers and sisters in Christ experience when interacting with me (see Galatians 5:22-23)? If I consistently produce “bad fruit,” do I truly understand the 4 parts of the gospel - or am I grieving the Holy Spirit somewhere in my heart?
