1st John Devotional - Week 3, Day 1

Day 1: “Don’t Miss it for the World” – by Jeremy Burd (Men’s Small Group Leader)

Read: 1 John 2:15-17

Review: John urges us to not love the world or anything in the world, but to do the will of God.
The allure of the world must be looked at as something that passes away and as a facade.
The world bombards us with ads and more that might as well say “covet me”, “covet me”.
Our goal is not to keep up with the Joneses – our eyes are to be set on Jesus and eternity.
We sing a song after each service about this very idea, and it ought to lead us
to go about our week not looking at the world to satisfy us but to truly turn our eyes to Jesus.
So let us be resolved to do that this week, no matter what comes at us or gets hurled.
John says that the one who does the will of God remains forever - don’t miss that for the world.

Reflect: What can I do this week to keep my focus on Jesus, the one who was determined to keep His focus on doing His Fathers will?
