1st John Devotional - Week 4, Day 1
Day 1: “In Him” – by Clay Graham (Small Groups Coordinator)
Read: 1 John 2:28
Review: In the CSB translation this scripture says, “remain in him so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” This makes me think of John 15:1-8. Jesus says “I am the true vine…Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself, unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me…”
We need to stay connected to Christ to produce good fruit. We’ll be rewarded and won’t be embarrassed when he returns if we do this. We need to spend time in prayer and reading the Bible for spiritual nourishment. Psalm 1 says if we reflect daily on God’s word, we’ll be like a tree planted along the water’s edge that never withers and always prospers.
Reflect: Am I praying, reading, and reflecting on the Bible daily, planting myself near the water’s edge? In the Old Testament, God fed his people in the wilderness with manna they were to gather fresh each day. Jesus is our bread of life now. Am I gathering fresh spiritual manna from him each day?
