1st John Devotional - Week 3, Day 5

Day 5: “Lead Me Not into Deception” – by Michelle Sullivan (Women’s Ministry Team Member)

Read: 1 John 2:26-27

Review: Satan is the father of lies [John 8:44] and deceiver of the world [Rev 12:9] so we need to be aware of his deceptive tactics and rely on the Holy Spirit’s anointing to teach us truth.

I had only been a Christian for about two years when a church-going neighbor brought me a gift—a book entitled Good Morning Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn. The book had a lovely cover, compelling chapter titles and the topic certainly interested me. However, something told me not to read the book—as though the book itself was locked. I was such a new believer that I didn’t realize it was the Holy Spirit in me nudging me away from deception. Later on, I learned that the content was full of false teaching. John reminds us that we can rely on God’s anointing to make us aware of deception and teach us truth.

Reflect: Am I relying on the anointing of the Holy Spirit to lead me away from deception and into truth? But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. John 14:26
